Hello everyone! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Karlee Crose and I am the creator of Karlee Beauty.
Karlee Beauty originated when I began filming and posting videos on my YouTube channel. These videos mainly focus on makeup tutorials and reviews, however there are some that address inner beauty topics. From there, I created an Instagram page to post pictures of my work and update friends and family members about new videos. Utilizing these social media platforms became a catalyst for my makeup business. Before I knew it, I was being asked to apply makeup for weddings, formals, Halloween parties, etc. Creating this small side business has been something that I have thoroughly enjoyed. It is my hope that I can use this new platform to further grow and expand Karlee Beauty.
Growing up I was always a tomboy. I don't think any expected me to grow up to be a makeup lover. When I reached 7th or 8th grade, my interest in makeup increased and I began experimenting with new types of products. By experimenting, I mean completely covering my eyelids from lash line to brow bone in bright blue, or sometimes purple, eyeshadow. This was accented with matching blue eyeliner and mascara. It was tragic, but we all have to start somewhere!
Discovering makeup tutorials on YouTube was my saving grace! I spent hours watching videos from various beauty gurus. I would then attempt to recreate the same looks that they were creating. I gathered knowledge about different types of products and how to properly apply them.
There were so many aspects of applying makeup that I had never even heard of. When I first started out, I could have never explained the differences between types of brushes. I definitely would have been one of those people that mistook a BeautyBlender for a weird, pink egg. I was completely unaware of how contour. My eyeshadow was never blended. To make things worse, I never filled in my eyebrows and I always covered my lips with a thick layer of foundation. Did I apply lipstick over top of it? Of course not.
After years of practice, I finally reached the point where I could sufficiently apply a full face of makeup. From that point I began to broaden my makeup skills, which included practicing Special FX makeup. I have always been fascinated with how makeup can be used to transform yourself into anything you wish to become. My favorite Special FX makeup that I've done thus far was when I turned myself into one of the characters from the movie Avatar. It looked like I had just walked off the set of the movie!
In addition to practicing new makeup looks on myself, I also began practicing applying makeup on other people. This turned out to be a whole new ball game! I didn't think it would be that difficult of a transition, but I was wrong. Luckily, I have some wonderful friends who let me use their faces as canvases, and eventually my skills improved.
Once I had gained this experience, I was inspired to create a YouTube channel of my own. It was the perfect way to combine my love for makeup and photography/videography. Plus I was already used to mentally explaining each step in my makeup process due to watching so many tutorials; I might as well record my explanations and hopefully help someone.
In the beginning, it was fairly nerve wracking to post these videos. I pretty much assumed that no one was going to watch them, and if they did they would tease me about posting them. In reality, I have received tremendous love and support! It is so reassuring to have friends and family members that believe in you and know that you are capable of reaching your dreams!
My Current Life
Currently, I am a senior Marketing student at Morehead State University. Since my graduation date will soon be approaching, I figured now would be a great time to turn my little side business into a potential future career. It is my hope that I can use the skills that I have gained in my various business courses to successfully promote my brand.
There are many goals that I wish to accomplish as a makeup artist. I would love to have the opportunity to be a makeup artist to the stars. Having the chance to do a celebrity's makeup right before they walk the red carpet would be amazing! I would also love to be hired to do makeup on the set of a movie, especially if it involved using Special FX techniques. In addition, I hope to some day collaborate with a cosmetics company to create my own makeup product that can be sold around the world.
All of these things are huge dreams and they will require a lot of commitment, determination, and hard work. I know that some of them might seem a bit far fetched, but I've always been told to dream big! I believe that if you are truly passionate about something, then you can accomplish any goals that you set for yourself. Even if none of these big dreams come true, I am happy just knowing that I have been able to make some of closest friends and family members feel beautiful! There's nothing more special than that!
